Hilaria Baldwin Balancing It All vs. Me Balancing it All

A while back I was thumbing through an old issue of Yoga Journal, where I happened upon a spread entitled: “Hilaria Baldwin Balances it all with Yoga.”

The article features Hilaria – the smart and talented sage yogini, who documents family life with her kids and famous husband, Alec Baldwin, in daily Instagram snaps. In the feature, Ms. Baldwin opens up about her life and yoga. Reading through the interview I couldn’t help but compare our lives. I mean, as one yogi to another, we’re practically twins.

Hilaria Baldwin’s Life:

Her early yoga training as a dancer & gymnast:
HB: “I started dancing when I was two years old, and gymnastics at age seven. Eventually, I started competing and teaching dance, and went to college at NYU [for dance]. It seemed a natural progression to try yoga, which seemed synonymous with health.

The New York Times describing your Instagram #yogapostureoftheday campaign as “fun, athletic and unapologetically sexual.”
HB: Am I unapologetically sexy? I don’t know. It depends on how you look at it. I do not think of these poses as sexual.

Yoga or meditation routine:
HB: I have to be honest: Before having a kid it was much easier. But I make sure I do about an hour of yoga every day. And every night before I go to bed, I think about how I treated people that day and how I could do it better the next day.

Expressing a great sense of style on the mat
HB: It is all about the yoga pants. Once I find a pair I fall in love with, I buy like 10 pairs.  (Like my riding pants; which I always pair with stilettos while I practice yoga.)

Post pregnancy figure
HB: I bounced back pretty quickly by going to the gym and practicing yoga every day. I don’t like diets, so I just try to eat well.

Meeting Alec Baldwin
HB: We were at a restaurant in New York, separately, and Alec kept looking over at me the whole time. When he was leaving, he came over and took my hand and said, ‘Who are you, who are you?’

My Life:

My early yoga training as a dancer & gymnast:
JM: “In college I spent most of my free time drunk, at fraternities, doing ‘The Humpty Dance’.”

On Instagram and anyone describing your #yogapostureoftheday campaign as “fun, athletic and unapologetically sexual.”
JM: My instagram feed consists of dogs in bowties riding in hybrid vehicles.  It’s totally sexy, especially if you live in the PNW, where we take sexy to the next level.

Yoga or meditation routine:
JM: I have to be honest: Before having a kid it was much easier. But every day, when I blow dry my hair, I flip my head upside down, which counts as a forward fold in my book. And every night before I go to bed, I watch a Real Housewives recording on DVR.

Expressing a great sense of style on the mat
JM: It is all about the laundry.  Sometimes, when I dig my yoga pants out of the hamper, I choose the least dirty.  It’s a lesser of two evils kind of thing.

Post pregnancy figure
JM: I haven’t bounced back quite yet, but, hey, I just had a baby, too!  (….Eleven years ago).

Meeting Alec Baldwin
JM:  (true story) – My cousin’s partner did business with Alec once.  …which means Alec and I are practically best friends.

So basically we have the same life.
