maui2014retreatwith Skeeter Tichnor & Jen Mitchell
February 14-19, 2015

This retreat is sold out, with the exception of offsite acccommodations.

Escape the cold, gloomy winter and retreat with us to Maui, where we’ll join local yoga teacher Skeeter Tichnor for 6 days and 5 nights dedicated to the attributes of humility and joy.

Through rest, relaxation, daily asana practice and afternoon seminars with Skeeter, we’ll discover how the practice of Yoga guides us to see the root of humility as the root of pure Joy: Ananada. During our retreat at Lumeria Maui, named a top yoga retreat destination by Yoga Journal,  Skeeter will hold a series of lectures, asana practices and Feldenkrais somatics exercises. Combined with a beautiful setting, good food, great company and a dose of much needed relaxation, we’ll discover the how to unite the principles of humility and joy and the value of introspection and self expression.

Jen and Skeeter will lead you through the delicious balance of expansion, introspection and rest.  You will nourish yourself, meditate, practice asana, and, if you wish, participate in daily afternoon seminars (see offerings below) that will allow you to study yogic concepts on a deeper level.

maui3Why Retreat?  In removing ourselves from our familiar surroundings, daily activities and responsibilities, retreats afford us the opportunity to see accumulated habits of distraction which build an internal wall between ourselves and our experience. These unconscious patterns of unaware living shield us from the inherent joy of our true nature. Daily practice helps us to become aware of these habits, while retreats emphasize continued mindfulness. This allows us to sustain an unconditional presence and an awareness unbound by circumstance. Why not treat yourself to Maui this winter?

about Jen. Jen teaches with humor and humility, weaving life’s lessons with asana… ultimately so we may live a sweeter life off the mat.  She began teaching in 1998 after a training with Shiva Rea.  Since then, her teaching (and practice) has evolved by encounters -brief or lasting – at Kirtan Camp with Jai Uttal, exploring loving kindness with Stephen Cope at Kripalu, a Mysore practice with Ashtanga teacher Maty Ezraty (and her assist, James Browne!) during a 2012 trip to India, and Judith Lasater, with whom she studied Level I and II Restorative Techniques in spring, 2011 and summer, 2013, respectively.  Jen’s classes combine physically challenging asana sequencing, with gentle, restorative poses. Expect japa mantra, pranayama and kriya in addition to asana.
